May 11, 2004 — A group of more than 20 PGA TOUR
golfers—including Jonathan Byrd, Jim
Carter, Glen Day, Brad Faxon
and Corey Pavin—and a number of golfers’
wives visited the J. Erik Jonsson Community school today to get a firsthand
look at how the money raised at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship is
impacting the lives of inner-city children.
JEJCS students were thrilled to have an opportunity to interact one-on-one
with the golfers and wives. An Authors’ Party with kindergarten
students, quilt-making with fifth graders and a rocket blasting science
experiment with sixth grade were the highlights of the visit. The visit
caught the attention of the media. NBC-5 and Fox 4 sent crews out to
film the activities, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram included
it in their tournament notes.
