The 3rd grade class plans to visit camp in the spring
to explore examples of animals modifying the environment for shelter
and homes (ie. beaver dams, bird nests, den sites, and beehives), plant
and animal adaptations for survival and reproduction, and evidences
of environmental changes (storm damage, soil erosion, plant succession,
weathering, shifts in stream beds, etc.). They also intend to study
the properties of various soils at camp.
The 4th grade class will be utilizing camp for an
exploration of different ecosystems (pond, lake, forest, grassland),
patterns of change in nature (metamorphosis, succession in plant and
animal communities), comparing adaptive characteristics of various organisms,
and a detailed examination of soil and water conservation. This class
will also take advantage of the historical sites on camp property to
search for artifacts at the Caddo Indian mound along Lake Fork Creek
and at the four old homestead sites.
The 5th graders will also visit camp to compare life
cycles of plants and animals, analyze adaptive characteristics of species
that improve their ability to survive and reproduce, and observe actions
that require time for measurable changes.
The 6th grade will travel to camp for more in-depth
analysis of the relationship between groundwater and surface water in
a watershed and illustrations of interactions between matter and energy
in the water cycle and in the decay process.
