Our therapists have a proven ability to work effectively with children and their families. They are well acquainted with families experiencing difficulties in the home, at school, or in the community. Our staff includes licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed psychologists, licensed social workers, and graduate students working under staff supervision.

Micki Burns, Ph.D.

Micki is the newest member of the SCYFC clinical staff. She initially came to the agency as a pre-doctoral psychology intern. After completing her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in August, 2003, Micki stayed on at SCYFC as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. In September 2004, Micki become a permanent family therapy staff member. She will obtain her licensure in psychology in 2005 and is working on improving her Spanish-speaking skills. She works closely with the training team including fellow staff, pre-doctoral interns and practicum students . In addition, Micki conducts psychological assessments and family therapy. Micki's clinical interests involve working with emotionally troubled adolescents and exploring the impact of poverty on the mental health needs of children, adolescents and families.

James D. Calvert, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist, Registered Sex Offender Treatment Provider (RSOTP), Diplomate in Psychopharmacology

Before joining SCYFC in 2001, Jim was the Chief Program Officer at Child and Family Guidance Centers. He has also been in private practice, the Clinical Director of a private psychiatric hospital, and the child practicum supervisor at the University of Alabama. He has presented research and conducted workshops in the United States, Australia and Norway. He is the 2002-2004 Vice President for the Dallas Behavioral Healthcare Network and is a program site visitor for APA. His interests include psychological assessment, psychopharmacology, and clinical training.

Kenneth J. Graves, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Before joining the SCYFC staff in 2002 Ken was on the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas/Callier Center for Communication Disorders. He has also worked with the Child and Family Guidance Centers and the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Ken’s special interests include developmental/behavioral issues with infants and preschoolers, as well as working with culturally diverse families. He has done training at the local and state level in each of these areas.

Michelle Billings Kinder, M.Ed.
Licensed Professional Counselor, bilingual Spanish/English

Prior to joining the SCYFC staff, Michelle worked with the Galaxy Counseling Center and the Child and Family Guidance Centers. She has experience working in English and Spanish with children, adults and families regarding issues of parenting, divorce, grief, depression, and abuse. In addition, she has presented numerous family strengthening topics through the media as well as to community groups.

Delane Kinney, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT and LPC Approved Supervisor, Advanced Certified EMDR Practitioner

Before joining the SCYFC staff in 1978, Delane served as the Director of the Letot Center. Delane is an active presenter and trainer on the local and state level. She has served in an advisory capacity to several local nonprofit agencies. She is the 1998-99 President of Dallas Psychological Association and 2000 President of the Board of Dallas Behavioral Healthcare Network. With Rudy Buckman and Ann Reese, she co-authored a chapter on narrative therapy for a clinical social work text, which will be published in 2000.

Fred Lines, M.S.
Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Child Care Administrator

A clinical member of the outpatient family therapy staff, Fred works with clients bringing both curiosity and a warm sense of humor to all of his sessions. Fred previously worked as a therapeutic counselor and senior counselor for Salesmanship Club Youth Camp for over 13 years before joining the family therapy team at SCYFC. Fred received a masters in counseling from Texas A&M Commerce. He worked with Terrell Independent School District providing individual and family counseling for two years, and worked as a child abuse investigator for TDHRS for three years. Fred’s particular interests are in working with blended families, marriages, terminal illness and emotionally challenged adolescents and teens. In addition to his work with clients, Fred participates in training and supervision of new therapists, conducts parenting education using the Love and Logic curriculum and is certified to teach Savannah Family Institute's "Parenting with Love and Limits."

Maria Trevino-Powers, M.S.S.W.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, bilingual Spanish/English

Prior to joining the staff of SCYFC in 1996, Maria worked as a therapist for the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center and Dallas County MHMR. Maria is experienced working with children and adolescents who have experienced abuse and violence.

Ann Reese, M.S.W.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Previously Ann was a fellow and trainer with the Galveston Family Institute. She also worked with the physical abuse unit of Harris County Child Welfare. Ann has extensive experience working with families where sexual and physical abuse of children has occurred. Ann serves on the Board of the Episcopal School of Dallas. Ann is co-author of the articles, "Therapeutic Loving: Opening Space for Children and their Families" in the Journal of Systemic Therapies and "Beyond Family Systems – Toward Problem Systems: Some Clinical Implications" in the Journal of Strategic and Systemic Therapies. With Rudy Buckman and Delane Kinney, she co-authored a chapter on narrative therapy in a clinical social work text to be published in 2000.

Stella Rodriquez, M.A.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, bilingual Spanish/English.
abd doctorate in psychology

Formerly a therapist at MHMR, Stella joined the SCYFC staff in 1989. Stella is known for her consultation and training in multiculturalism. She has worked closely with St. Cecilia School as a classroom consultant. Her clinical interests include eating disorders and body image.

Leticia Sanchez Sullivan, M.S.W.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, bilingual Spanish/English
Leticia brings over 15 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. For the past 10 years she had a clinical private practice in Lewisville, TX where she provided individual, couple and family therapy. In addition, Leticia had several contracts with local businesses to provide counseling and organizational consultation. Her ongoing interests include therapy, training, supervision and organizational consultation.

Love & Logic® Trainer, bilingual Spanish/English

Before joining the SCYFC staff in 1998, Michael served as a staff therapist with Catholic Counseling Services. From 1998 until the program ended in 2004, Michael worked with adolescents and their families as the bilingual clinical staff member of the Salesmanship Club Youth Camp family therapy team. Now a clinical member of the outpatient family therapy staff, he continues to work with clients in all seasons of life, while bringing both compassion and a warm sense of humor to all of his sessions. In addition to his work with clients, Michael coordinates the provision of Parent Education Classes for the agency, participates in training and supervision of new therapists, and passionately strives to unite disparate communities.

Judy Swint, Ph.D.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, LMFT and LPC Approved Supervisor

Formerly a teacher and tax auditor, Judy joined the SCYFC staff as a family therapist for the Salesmanship Club Youth Camp in 1992. She completed her doctoral dissertation while working for SCYFC and began supervising therapists in 1996. Now an outpatient clinician, she continues to work with individuals and families, conduct training, and supervise practicum students. She conducts parenting education using the Love and Logic curriculum and is certified to teach Savannah Family Institute's "Parenting with Love and Limits." Her continuing clinical focus is on the theory and application of solution-focused therapy.

Phil Torti, Ph.D.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Child Care Administrator, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, LMFT and LPC Approved Supervisor

Phil began his training as a family therapist in 1977 at UTMB-Galveston. He served as a faculty member and training supervisor with the Galveston Family Institute from 1978 until 1988 when he joined the SCYFC staff. He is currently serving as a board member of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He continues to provide training and supervision at SCYFC and through the Reunion Institute. His areas of therapeutic interest include working with abusive men, juvenile delinquents, and child welfare referred families.
